Snow Drift: A Little Winter Magic

Welcome to Quilt Block Mania 2026!

Our January theme is Snow, and even though we’ve had very little snow here in Northern Nevada this year, this theme really resonated with me, a girl who grew up in South Dakota!

So I made a paper-pieced block called Snow Drift.

When I was a kid, winter meant serious snow — the kind that piled up in six-foot drifts and turned the outdoors into the ultimate playground. We climbed it, tunneled through it, and disappeared into snowbanks that felt taller than the house. I mean, sometimes they were! Everything was quieter, softer, and just a little bit magical.

That’s the feeling I wanted to stitch into this block.

Snow Drift isn’t about perfection. It’s about movement, layers, and letting things flow — just like snow shaped by the wind. Sew it just as written, or treat it as a jumping-off point. Shift the colors, play with scale, add texture, and make it your own.

And don’t stop here! ?

Happy stitching — and happy snow-day dreaming ????
